A primer should not impair adhesion of a surface adhered coating. It must be stable with a melting temperature above 500°C. The steel element used should have a sufficiently pronounced re-entrant profile in accordance with BS 8202 Part 1 (1995) and AS 3784 Part 1 (1990).

As a result, manufacturers of spray applied fire resistive materials (SFRMs) or fire resistive coatings typically advocate that ‘no primer’ is better than ‘any primer’. The Vermitex® range is chemically compatible with most primers and our surface adhered coatings are not, in typical circumstances, affected by primers.
