The construction industry is fast recognising that carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP) are an ideal solution for many problems found in new as well as refurbishment projects.

The drawback is that common epoxy adhesives used to bond the CFRP to the concrete are very sensitive to temperature variations. The epoxy loses most of its force-transfer ability when the temperature reaches between 70°C-81°C. Passive fire protection to enhance fire endurance becomes inevitable to enable engineers and builders to use these innovative systems to strengthened structural members.

Through Vermitex® LAF has developed a passive fire protection solution that will maintain the temperature of the CFRP below 90°C so that its tensile strength is retained in the event of a fire.
