The proliferation of home entertainment systems, domestic health and fitness equipment, intrusive white goods (driers, clothes and dish washers) as necessary accompaniments to our modern day living, have all added to and compounded the problem of noise in the built environment.
The use of noise insulation systems to control the transference and passage of noise has been used extensively by Acoustic Engineers.
The need for new and innovative construction techniques that effectively address the issue of noise minimisation and control continues to be a major concern for the engineering community, builders, and legislators, worldwide.
LAF operates across two basic areas: Sound Absorption and Sound Insulation.
Refers to the ability of a material or system to absorb sound waves. It is the process through which sound energy is converted into heat energy. Sound absorptive materials, and in particular Vermitex Acustico is designed and developed to do this very effectively. Applied to the underside of concrete slabs of large transport interchange projects (such as the MTR stations in Hong Kong), Vermitex Acustico absorbs extraneous air-born sound within the terminal space to vastly improve the audibility of announcements through the station’s PA system.
The sound absorption property of this type of product is normally expressed as Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC).
Sound Insulation refers to the ability of a building element of construction to limit noise transmission through the building element itself. The sound transmission class of a product or its ability to prevent the passage of sound is normally defined by the RW or DnT,w of a system.
